Part of having a fully functional and well-maintained society is having sets of rules firmly in place for when problems arise. No two human beings are alike, and as such, we are bound to butt heads at some point. Most of the time, hopefully, a resolution can be reached through dialogue and compromise. But sometimes things just are not that simple. When this is the case, those problems can then become legal issues that must be resolved within the court system. It isn’t always a bad thing, in fact at times it is even necessary.

When disagreements become legal issues
Wedding pictures are typically full of smiling faces, representing happiness and celebration of eternal love. However most people are well-acquainted with the phrase “fighting like a married couple.” Where is the line the separates blissful celebrations of forever from what many view as the inevitable nagging or fighting? Unfortunately for some, that line can be translated to time, and not much of it. The likelihood of a person’s first marriage terminating by way of separation or divorce within the first five years after the wedding is 20%. And some statistics claim that around 40% to 50% of all marriages eventually end in divorce, with later marriages facing an even higher probability of meeting a similar end. Divorce cases, however civil, become legal cases, as it is recognized law that binds the couple in the first place. And if child custody becomes an issue, having clearly-stated stipulations created by the court is often one of the best ways to settle any disputes.

What are some other reasons experienced lawyers might be necessary?
While there are many legal issues that obviously land you in court, whether it is criminal, or more along the lines of a civil lawsuit, sometimes it may just be about getting a good family lawyer to get affairs in order. According to Business Insider, there are three crucial legal documents that every American should have, and those are a will in place in case of death, a living will in case of extreme medical situations, and a solid power of attorney in case of absence or incapability. Most people are familiar with the idea of a will — the written wishes of an individual that are to be respected after his or her death, most often distributing property. Though familiar with the concept, a good chunk of the population doesn’t have one, as one survey found that 57% admitted to just not quite getting around to it yet. A living will is one that is perhaps not thought about quite as much but also important. In the case that an individual is alive but unable to express his or her wishes, a living will sets it out ahead of time. In the United States, about 72% of seniors have a living will. And lastly, the power of attorney establishes another person to represent the individual’s affairs.

The laws that we have in place within our society help to maintain order, just as lawyers do in numerous legal situations. Whether you are struggling through a divorce or just hoping to ensure your family’s security in the future, the legality of it all can give you the peace of mind that everything will work out for the best.
